What every woman should know about career %$#@ ups

Published over 2 years ago • 2 min read

Hello Reader,

I bet you see women on Instagram and Facebook every day who look like they’ve got their career and life altogether.

Each time you scroll past one of these, there is that annoying little voice in your mind says, “You just won’t get there.”

You need to know, they didn’t get there by sheer luck, and it definitely didn’t happen instantly.

It didn’t happen like that for me either. And it won’t for you.

But here’s the thing you should know – most women have at least 2 significant screw-ups in their career development. You know, those ‘blips’ in our work history that we wish would just vanish from our career timeline and our memory!?

And a lot of these moments come from not trusting our gut.

Our inner voice, intuition, sixth sense – whatever you want to call it – is often telling us with signs that we ignore at the time.

Most of the time, it’s easy to relate to a ‘gut feeling,’ because in those moments that something doesn’t feel quite right, our body is telling us to stop and listen. We are literally receiving signals all the time from people and our environment that trigger a feeling that we all too- often ignore.

And those things we ignore can be red flags for our future in that role.

I can definitely recall at least 2 of those moments in my career history, and I will tell you all about it in my latest journal post, How to Recover from a Career F@$! Up…

That boss with a superiority complex who refuses to address you directly from the first day or the supervisor who you brushed off as having sarcastic humour who actually turned out to be unbearable or aggressive…

There are too many of these scenarios to count, and I know you’ll all have a hundred more stories to tell of your own. Eventually, these things we brush off can accumulate and reflect in our work. It can affect our mental and physical health or lead to being blind sighted with job termination.

There isn’t a successful woman in the world that didn’t experience something like this at some point in their career journey, so don’t be hard on yourself.

The key is not to focus on how hard you fell but on what you learned from that role and the experience.

And don’t forget –take note of the signs you ignored so that next time, you’ll take a moment to sit with that ‘red-flag feeling’ that pops up and pay attention. You don’t need to put yourself through seeing how the whole thing will play out instead of listening to your instincts.

Acknowledge the signs, even if it means waiting for another opportunity.

I’d love to hear what your experiences have been, and if you need help recuperating from a disastrous career moment, I’ve got what you need to reframe that horrible experience into a pivotal career move that will make you look back with gratitude for the experience!

Hey Reader, Christmas is high up on the list of one of the most stressful times of the year. Whether it’s finding the right present, navigating the family patterns or introducing a new partner. I adore Christmas, it is my most favourite time of the year and even more so when I am back in my homeland of the UK. I’ve had at least 13 Aussie Christmases, but it’s just not the same when its 30 degrees outside. I did have to laugh at the swiftness of turnover from Halloween to Christmas décor. I...

However, this year is back on and the invitations are sliding in thick and fast. Over the next few weeks, I will be talking to you about ways to navigate the silly season, so it remains enjoyable, healthy and stress free. I love a good catch-up...
